Best Practices to satisfy policy holders and ensure good management of the assets they generate.
"Insurance, particularly in terms of products and service providers, is one of the most complex, sophisticated and diversified areas of the financial sector" stated the OECD Council in a "recommendation" on Best Practices adopted on 28 March 2008.
The responsibility of operators in this sector is therefore exercised at two levels:
- Firstly, individually, towards policy holders: non-discrimating rate-making, declaration of claims, valuation and processing of claims for compensation, timeframe and procedures for settlement, handling of complaints and disputes, etc.
- From the collective point of view, the responsibility of insurers can be assessed as a function of the significant investments they have to manage. Best Practices implemented by some of them show that their influence can be vital depending on the social and environmental
criteria used in managing their assets
